I was at a funeral the other day for a great uncle. We did the usual reciting of the Lord’s Prayer. I realised it didn’t really resonate with me, which lessened its power. But I like the sentiment, ritual and the meaning. So I’d thought I’d sketch my own alternative.
It’s also nearly Easter, so here’s my attempt at being religious.
Our Universe,
Enfold us all,
Space of intertwine.
An endless now.
An unfurling path.
This is all we have.
Nourish us on this new day.
And heal the harm we cause,
As we heal from the harm caused to us.
Let us be aware of surrounding grace,
And steer us from the ways of suffering.
For you are wonder, kindness, and possibility,
As our short lives bloom.
