We should be doing something useful
Anything but that
Renegade opinions
And pictures of a cat

We need to earn some money
We need to pay the bills
We need some central heating
To stop the nightly chills 

We should be more productive 
Contribute to GDP
Instead of videos on TikTok 
And scripted drama on TV

We need to earn some money
We need to pay the rent
Direct debit for the credit card
To pay off all we’ve spent

We really should enjoy this
Dedicated with a passion 
Instead of weak-willed subjectry 
Small-scale followers of fashion

We need to earn some money
Payment plans in overflow
We need to contribute to society
Make up for grab-n-go

Our time is running out
Dripping evenly each day
Carpe diem and all that jazz
Instead of pissing it away

We need the walls around us
Firm boundaries do not rupture
We need to feel the pressure
Comforted by structure

But in the end it’s all a game
Of fleeting joy and tragedy
We have better things for our lives
Than this crap poetry
